ABOUT PIANO FARM
NAMED FOR THE TEMPO AND THE GENTLE SLOPE OF LAND…
Piano Farm is located in the hamlet of Bloomfield on the Sonoma Coast in California. Our focus is growing nutrient-dense fruits, vegetables, and herbs through climate-beneficial practices. Plants naturally draw carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis. By planting multi-species hedgerows, trees, cover-crops and perennial foods, and by using no and low-till techniques, we are creating a living system that draws carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and sequesters it in the soil.
We have always shared a deep connection with food and with being makers, farming is our way of expressing climate awareness. We want to learn from the natural world and witness the effects of climate shifts on plants, animals and society.
In the context of our contemporary food system where we are encouraged to be passive consumers and meet our needs at the super market or through a delivery app. direct involvement in the the production of food is rich with possibility. Cultivating our own food requires interaction with soil, plants, bacteria, fungi, animals, establishing direct connection like this has intangible value. Our pervasive food system of mass production is unsustainable for many reasons; products are nutritionally diminished, production processes are wasteful and the centralized system is vulnerable to interruption. When considering food security it is an opportunity for people in every region of the world to think about increasing their productive capacity of food. Local and regional food production is a form of activism.
Our Piano Farm Gift Boxes are the culmination of our experience of the season as farmers and makers. Each box contains the memory of the summer past in every mouth watering bite. Stock your own pantry or share them as gifts.
