“Spending time outside tending soil and plants gives me a sense of place in community. Cooking uses all my senses -- including intuition. Pinching forms out of clay gets me quiet while using my hands directly, each pinch leaves a mark that forms the vessel. After a decade and a half creating spaces and meals that nourished and inspired diners, I dedicated myself to my studio art practice and received a MFA from Mills college in 2014. I currently live and work on Piano Farm in Bloomfield California, splitting time between my studio and regenerative farming, which is a form of climate awareness activism.”

ABOUT Karel

With history in forestry and carpentry Karel brought to the farm sense for poetry, sound ecology and focused spaces observation reflected in his minimal photography and video experimentation.

“I love spending my time in a place that we created, off the pavement, in the outdoors, in elements, expending our senses , tuning into surroundings, learning from the seasons and trials and errors. Working together with Veva, we transformed neglected 3 acre parcel into a healthy and healthy food producing piece of land. Feels good. Feels alive.
